How to use SSH on Webserve

1. Open the SSH client:

You may do so by either double clicking the icon on your desktop

Client Icon:
Or go to Start => All Programs => SSH Secure Shell => Secure Shell Client. The path to the SSH may be different from computer to computer.

You can use SFTP (SSH Secure File Transfer program) after connecting with the SSH Secure Shell Client, as described in step 4. The steps below will describe how to log in to your account using SSH Secure Shell Client.


2. Click on Quick Connect.


3. Type the following:

Host Name: webserve.iu.edu
User Name: your_account_name

Replace your_account_name with the name of your web account. For most accounts, the name of the account appears after the tilde (~) in the URL for that account.

Click on Connect.

The first time you connect to your account on Webserve, you may receive a prompt similar to this:

Click 'Yes'. The next time you login to your account you will not be prompted for this again.

4. When prompted, enter the network passphrase for your Webserve account.


5. By clicking on the SSH Secure File Transfer Client, you can use SFTP after logging in to SSH Secure Shell.
